"The Platinum's cashback design is honest about what it wants: your supermarket and fuel spending, at least ⃃ 3,000 of it a month. Clear ⃃ 5,000 and the 5% rate plus the 100% streaming rebate are genuinely good — and that same run rate waives the renewal fee. Just don't mistake it for a general-purpose card: everything else earns exactly nothing, and foreign spend is expensive."

Earning cashback with the UAB Platinum

Cashback is tiered on your total monthly statement spend: under ⃃ 3,000 earns nothing at all, ⃃ 3,000–5,000 earns 3% on groceries/supermarkets and fuel, and from ⃃ 5,000 you get 5% on both plus 100% back on video streaming subscriptions such as Netflix and Disney+. Categories are defined by Mastercard merchant codes (supermarkets 5411; fuel 5541/5542 including CAFU; streaming 4899/5968).

The cap is ⃃ 500 a month and everything outside the three categories earns 0%. Cashback lands automatically as a credit on the next statement — no portal, no vouchers — but is forfeited if the card is closed or cancelled.

Is it right for you?

Get this card if

  • Your supermarket and fuel spending alone justifies a card, and you spend ⃃ 3,000+ a month overall.
  • You can push ⃃ 5,000 a month through the card — that unlocks 5%, the streaming rebate and the fee waiver.
  • You pay in full every month and want a free first year to trial the card.

Consider skipping it if

  • Your spending is spread across many categories — everything outside supermarkets, fuel and streaming earns 0%.
  • You spend a lot abroad — the 2.77% FX markup makes it a poor travel companion.
  • You want real lounge access — UAB itself calls the Platinum's lounge benefit 'limited / selective'.
