"Judge the Platinum by its base numbers, not its billboard. Two miles per ⃃ 10 with a 10,000-mile hello is fair value for ⃃ 525 a year — but the advertised 5.5 rate costs ⃃ 250 a month extra, there's no lounge, and 3.99% monthly interest means this card must be paid in full, every month."

Earning and redeeming Etihad Guest Miles

The base structure is simple: 2 miles per ⃃ 10 on domestic spend, 3.5 per ⃃ 10 internationally, and double miles — 4 per ⃃ 10 — on tickets booked directly on Etihad Airways and partner websites, with no cap on the Etihad rate. Supermarkets, utilities, fuel, transport, education and government payments earn a flat 1.5 per ⃃ 10 regardless of tier. Everything else caps at 10,000 miles a month, and earning rounds down to the whole mile. The 'up to 5.5' rate FAB advertises is the optional Miles Accelerator Programme at ⃃ 250 a month — at the 10,000-mile cap it can make sense for very high spenders, but it is not the card's real rate.

Miles accrue daily and sweep automatically into your Etihad Guest account, where you redeem for flights, upgrades and partner rewards on etihadguest.com. The card's quiet best feature is the Miles Discount Voucher: put ⃃ 100,000 through the card in a year and you get 25% off the miles cost of up to two return award tickets — any class, any destination, with a July/August/December blackout.

Pros and cons

Pros
Cons
  • The cheapest entry into Etihad Guest earning — ⃃ 8,000 salary and a 525-⃃ fee
  • 10,000-mile joining bonus roughly offsets the first year's fee
  • Double miles (4 per ⃃ 10) on Etihad and partner bookings made directly online, uncapped
  • 25% miles-discount voucher on award flights if you put ⃃ 100,000 through the card in a year
  • Buyers protection and extended warranty included
  • The advertised 'up to 5.5 miles per ⃃ 10' is the Miles Accelerator rate — a paid booster at ⃃ 250 a month
  • 3.99% monthly interest (47.88% APR) is among the highest in the UAE market
  • No airport lounge access — that starts at the Signature tier
  • Earning is capped at 10,000 miles a month, and supermarkets, fuel, utilities, education and government spend earn just 1.5 per ⃃ 10
  • Foreign spend costs up to 2.61% + VAT plus Visa scheme charges

Is it right for you?

Get this card if

  • You fly Etihad once or twice a year and want miles without a premium fee — ⃃ 525 is easy to justify.
  • Your salary is ⃃ 8,000–15,000, below the Signature's bar.
  • You book Etihad directly online, where the uncapped double rate does its best work.

Consider skipping it if

  • You expect lounge access — this tier has none.
  • Most of your spend is supermarkets, fuel or utilities, which earn a token 1.5 per ⃃ 10.
  • You carry a balance — 3.99% a month (47.88% APR) will erase years of mile value in weeks.

Frequently asked questions

What is the annual fee on the FAB Etihad Guest Platinum card?+

AED 525 including VAT (AED 500 + VAT). It is charged one month after the card is opened and then annually on the same date. Supplementary cards cost AED 262.50 each.

How many joining miles do I get?+

10,000 Etihad Guest Miles, credited to your Etihad Guest account after you activate the card and pay the statement carrying the annual fee. It is a one-time privilege — if you cancel and re-apply, you will not receive it again. Supplementary cards add a one-time 5,000 miles.

How many miles do I earn per AED 10?+

2 miles on domestic spend and 3.5 on international spend. Direct online bookings with Etihad Airways or Etihad Airways Partners earn double — 4 per AED 10, uncapped. Supermarkets & utilities, fuel & conveyance, and education & government payments earn a reduced 1.5 per AED 10. Everything else is capped at 10,000 miles a month, and earning rounds down to the nearest mile.

What is the Miles Accelerator Programme?+

An optional booster costing AED 250 a month (minimum two months) that lifts your earn rate to 5.5 miles per AED 10 on all spend — this is the 'up to 5.5' rate FAB advertises. The 10,000-mile monthly cap still applies, so it only pays off at high spend levels.

Does the Platinum card include airport lounge access?+

No. Lounge access starts with the Etihad Guest Signature card; the Platinum offers airport transfers at discounted rates instead.

How does the 25% Miles Discount Voucher work?+

Spend AED 100,000 on the card within a card year (including balance transfers) and Etihad Guest emails you a voucher that cuts 25% off the miles needed for up to two return award tickets, any class and destination. One voucher per year, valid for six months, and it cannot be used for flights in July, August or December.

What is the minimum salary requirement?+

AED 8,000 per month.
