"Judged as a free perks card, the Mastercard Platinum earns its keep: 900+ lounges, 30% off dining and golf discounts for no annual fee under the current offer. Judged as a rewards card, it doesn't — 'up to' 1.5% with an unpublished cap, and a fraction of that on essentials. Take the perks, skip the points math."

Earning and redeeming Plus Points

The card earns up to 1.5 Plus Points per ⃃ 100 on retail spend — Emirates NBD presents this as up to 1.5% back. Essentials earn much less: 0.4% on supermarkets, groceries, insurance and car dealerships, and just 0.2% on fuel, utilities, real estate and education. A per-statement earning cap applies, and the bank doesn't publish the cap amount on the card page.

Redemption is the card's friendlier side: Plus Points can be redeemed instantly at key merchant outlets, so you can burn small balances at the till instead of saving for a catalogue. Check the Plus Points terms for current redemption partners and values before you count on a rate.

Is it right for you?

Get this card if

  • You want lounge access, dining and golf perks without paying an annual fee.
  • You earn ⃃ 12,000+ a month and pay your balance in full.
  • You'd rather redeem small point balances instantly at the till than chase transfer partners.

Consider skipping it if

  • You want real rewards on everyday spend — 0.2–0.4% on essentials with a capped 1.5% headline earns very little.
  • You spend heavily on groceries — a dedicated grocery or cashback card will out-earn this several times over.
  • You carry a balance — 3.69% a month adds up faster than any perk pays back.
