"Judge this card by its anniversary gift, not its earn rate. A 35,000-point Free Night every year — on a card advertised with no fee — is worth ⃃ 700+ to anyone who actually sleeps in Marriott hotels, and Silver Elite plus 10 night credits sweetens each stay. But at roughly 0.4 points per ⃃ on daily spend, it earns its keep in the hotel, not at the supermarket."

Earning and redeeming Marriott Bonvoy points

Earning is calculated in dollars (US$1 = ⃃ 3.673): 3 points per US$1 when you pay Marriott hotels and stores directly — stacking on top of the 10x-plus base points Bonvoy members already earn on stays — then 1.5 points on general domestic retail and international spend. The UAE penalty buckets bite hard: EU/UK merchants earn 0.75, groceries, insurance, car dealerships and fast food 0.375 (fast-food tickets over US$25 earn the full 1.5), and fuel, education, government, real estate, ride-hailing, food delivery and bill payments just 0.15.

Redemption is pure Bonvoy: nights at 30+ brands across 10,000 destinations, from Courtyard to Ritz-Carlton, with points that never expire while your membership is active. The card's real engine is its Free Night Awards — one for US$6,000 of spend in your first 3 statements, then one every anniversary — each covering a night up to 35,000 points, top-up-able with 15,000 of your own. Booked well, that's a five-star weekend night the card hands you annually.

Pros and cons

Pros
Cons
  • A yearly Free Night Award worth up to 35,000 points on a card advertised as free for life
  • Welcome Free Night Award on US$6,000 spend in the first 3 statements
  • Automatic Silver Elite status plus 10 Elite Night Credits every calendar year
  • 3 points per US$1 at Marriott hotels stacks on top of the stay points Bonvoy already pays
  • Free Night value can be topped up with up to 15,000 points for pricier hotels
  • Accessible ⃃ 12,000 minimum salary
  • Weak everyday earn — 1.5 points per US$1 (≈0.4 per ⃃) on general spend
  • Groceries, fuel, utilities and bill payments earn just 0.15–0.375 points per US$1
  • The bank's price guide and KFS list a ⃃ 315 annual fee despite the page's free-for-life claim
  • 3.69% monthly interest (44.28% p.a.) per the price guide — the page says 3.25%
  • Gold Elite fast track needs a hefty US$40,000 annual spend
  • Free Night Awards expire after 12 months and cap at 35,000-point properties

Is it right for you?

Get this card if

  • You stay at Marriott-family hotels at least once or twice a year — the anniversary night alone outvalues most cards' rewards.
  • You want hotel status on a ⃃ 12,000 salary: Silver Elite and 10 night credits come automatic.
  • You already carry a strong daily-spend card and need a free companion for hotel loyalty.

Consider skipping it if

  • You rarely sleep in Marriott hotels — the Free Night and status are the whole pitch.
  • You want rewards on everyday spend — 0.4 points per ⃃ with harsh penalty categories earns little.
  • You'd put US$70,000+ a year through the card and value Gold/Platinum perks — the World Elite tier earns and upgrades faster.
