"At a ⃃ 5,000 salary, cards with any lounge access are thin on the ground, and that's the dnata Platinum's real pitch. The dnata earn rates look generous but they're confined to a handful of brands, and the 1% base rate in ecosystem points won't move the needle. If you'd have paid for lounge entry anyway, the ⃃ 525 can work; otherwise it's a fee in search of a justification."

Earning and redeeming dnata Points

The ladder runs: 15% back at Costa Coffee, City Sightseeing and Giraffe, 10% at dnata Travel, MMI, Al Hamra Cellar, Arabian Adventures and Le Clos, 5% on Duty Free and 1% on everything else. Note the demotion versus the dnata World card — dnata Travel drops from the 15% tier to 10%, and Duty Free halves to 5%. The welcome offer adds up to 1,000 points: 500 for paying the joining fee, 500 for ⃃ 10,000 of retail spend in the first 3 statements.

Redemption happens within the dnata ecosystem — dnata Travel and the partner brands — via the bank's 'Redeem dnata Points' guide. Points aren't cash and don't convert to airline miles, so the card only makes sense if dnata brands already feature in your spending.

Is it right for you?

  • Costa Coffee, Duty Free and dnata Travel bookings are already part of your spending.
