"The Switch is the rare cashback card with an honest gimmick: the monthly Lifestyle/Travel toggle genuinely changes what you earn, and the Lifestyle rates — 8% fuel, 4% groceries, dining and school fees — fit a UAE household's real spending. Just respect the ⃃ 2,500 monthly floor and the ⃃ 100–200 category caps, or the headline numbers will never materialise."

Earning and redeeming Switch cashback

The card runs on two selectable plans. Lifestyle pays 8% on domestic fuel (capped at ⃃ 100 cashback a month) and 4% on domestic supermarkets, dining and education (⃃ 200 caps each). Travel pays 4% on airlines, hotels and dining worldwide (⃃ 200 caps each). In both plans, everything else earns 1% uncapped, except utilities, telecom, real estate and government payments at 0.5%. You pick the plan in the EI + app; it applies to the whole calendar month and rolls forward until you change it.

Two rules gate everything: cashback is only earned in months where ⃃ 2,500+ posts to your statement, and transactions above your credit limit don't earn. Cashback lands in your EI Rewards wallet within 3 working days of month-end, stays valid for 24 months, and redeems from a ⃃ 300 minimum as statement credit — or as miles exchanges, vouchers, flights and hotels through the EI Rewards app.

Pros and cons

Pros
Cons
  • 8% on fuel and 4% on supermarkets, dining and education is a strong Lifestyle mix for everyday UAE spending
  • You can switch to a Travel plan (4% airlines, hotels, dining) in-app any month — no other UAE cashback card does this
  • First year free, and the ⃃ 313.95 renewal fee is waived at a realistic ⃃ 30,000 annual spend
  • Genuine Visa Signature perks: lounges, two golf rounds a month, valet, Marhaba meet & greet and multi-trip travel takaful
  • Flexible redemption from ⃃ 300 — statement credit, miles exchange, vouchers, flights and hotels
  • Nothing is earned in a month where posted spend is below ⃃ 2,500
  • Category caps are tight: ⃃ 200 per category and only ⃃ 100 on the 8% fuel rate — the 8% headline maxes out at ⃃ 1,250 of fuel
  • Utilities, telecom, real estate and government payments earn just 0.5%
  • 2.54% foreign-currency fee (plus the ~1.15% network fee) makes it a poor card to spend abroad, even on the Travel plan
  • Most lifestyle perks carry monthly minimum-spend conditions (⃃ 3,000–5,000) and are billed if you miss them

Is it right for you?

Get this card if

  • Your monthly card spend comfortably clears ⃃ 2,500 and skews toward fuel, groceries, dining or school fees.
  • You want a Sharia-compliant cashback card that can flip to travel earning for holiday months.
  • You'll spend ⃃ 30,000+ a year and effectively never pay the annual fee.

Consider skipping it if

  • Your spending is dominated by utilities, telecom, rent or government payments — they earn just 0.5%.
  • You spend heavily in foreign currency — the 2.54% + ~1.15% FX cost outruns the 4% travel rate's caps.
  • Your monthly spend is irregular and often below ⃃ 2,500 — zero-cashback months kill the value.

Frequently asked questions

How does the Switch feature work?+

You choose a reward plan — Lifestyle or Travel — in the EI + mobile app. The plan active during a calendar month is used to calculate that month's cashback, and it carries over to following months until you change it.

What cashback rates does the Switch Cashback Card pay?+

Lifestyle plan: 8% on domestic fuel (AED 100 monthly cap), 4% on domestic supermarkets, dining and education (AED 200 cap each). Travel plan: 4% on airlines, hotels and dining (AED 200 cap each). In both plans, telecom, utilities, real estate and government spends earn 0.5% and everything else earns 1%, uncapped.

Is there a minimum spend to earn cashback?+

Yes. You need at least AED 2,500 of transactions posted to your statement in the calendar month; below that, no cashback is earned for the month.

What is the annual fee?+

The first year is free. From year two an annual fee of AED 299 excluding VAT (AED 313.95 including VAT) applies, automatically waived if retail spends in the last 12 months exceed AED 30,000. Balance transfers, cash advances, easy payment plans, fees and reversed transactions don't count toward the waiver.

What welcome offer is currently advertised?+

A guaranteed AED 500 welcome cashback when you spend AED 15,000 within 60 days of card approval. The bank advertises the offer as valid until 30 September 2026.

Is the card Sharia compliant?+

Yes. Emirates Islamic credit cards are structured on Murabaha, a Sharia-compliant sale contract. There is no interest; a monthly profit rate of 3.69% applies to unpaid balances, and late payment triggers an AED 131.25 commitment-to-donate amount paid to charity rather than a penalty fee kept by the bank.

How do I redeem the cashback?+

Cashback accrues to a Cashback wallet within 3 working days of the following month and can be redeemed via the EI Rewards app or portal for statement credit (minimum AED 300 balance), miles exchange, vouchers, flights, hotels and gadgets. Cashback is valid for 24 months.

Does lounge access cost anything?+

The first lounge visit each calendar year is complimentary. Further free visits require a foreign-currency spend of USD 1 or more at least 15 days before the visit; otherwise USD 32 per visit is charged. Accompanying guests are charged USD 32 per person per visit.
