"Most entry-level UAE cards give you a token rate and call it a day; the SHAMS Platinum gives you the same 5% dining-and-travel headline as cards two tiers up, and asks for nothing monthly in return. The honest caveat is scale — the caps mean the 5% is pocket money, not a windfall. As a first Sharia-compliant card it's an easy recommendation; as a main card for a big spender it isn't trying to be one."

Earning and redeeming Wala'a Rewards

The Platinum keeps the SHAMS headline — 10 Wala'a per ⃃ 1 on dining and on travel bookings, 5% back at the bank's valuation of roughly half a fils per reward — with tighter ceilings: 5,000 Wala'a a month for dining (~⃃ 25 of value) and 10,000 for travel. Other domestic spend earns 1.5 per ⃃ 1 (~0.75%), international non-⃃ spend earns 2, and the penalty wall applies: government, supermarkets, utilities, insurance, cars, education, fuel, real estate, telecom and EEA transactions all drop to 0.3 per ⃃ 1. Utility and government bills paid through DIB's own platforms, charity, crypto and quasi-cash earn nothing.

Redemption runs through alt Online Banking: book any airline or hotel, take cashback, shop, pay bills with rewards, or exchange into Etihad Guest Miles and Avios (Qatar Airways Privilege Club) — transfer ratios aren't published, so check the app before committing a large balance. DIB doesn't publish an expiry period either; the KFS simply warns that loyalty currencies expire, which argues for redeeming as you go.

Pros and cons

Pros
Cons
  • Same headline 5% on dining and travel as the premium SHAMS tiers
  • The easiest free-for-life card in the range: no first-year fee, waived at just ⃃ 15,000 annual spend (⃃ 1,250/month)
  • No monthly spend conditions to track — unlike the Signature and Infinite, nothing here switches off
  • Family travel takaful up to USD 100,000 covering spouse and up to 4 children
  • Fully Sharia-compliant Salam structure with late payment handled as a charity donation, not bank income
  • No lounge access, valet, golf, Costa BOGO or airport transfers — the lifestyle perks live on higher tiers
  • The 5% dining cap is only 5,000 Wala'a a month (~⃃ 25 of value)
  • Weak base earn — 1.5 Wala'a per ⃃ 1 (~0.75%), dropping to 0.3 on groceries, fuel, utilities and government
  • 3.70% international usage fee is high for any overseas use
  • DIB doesn't publish a minimum salary for this card — eligibility is only confirmed at application

Is it right for you?

Get this card if

  • You want your first Sharia-compliant card with a real headline rate and a fee waiver you'll hit at ⃃ 1,250 a month.
  • Your spending is modest and mostly domestic, with regular dining or the odd flight booking.
  • You value family travel cover and simplicity over lounges and valet.

Consider skipping it if

  • You'd actually use lounge visits, valet or Costa BOGO — the Signature's ⃃ 5,000 condition buys a lot more card.
  • You spend enough that ⃃ 25–75 of monthly reward value feels like a rounding error.
  • You spend heavily abroad — 3.70% FX plus a 2x earn rate is a guaranteed net loss.

Frequently asked questions

Is the DIB SHAMS Platinum Card really free for life?+

There is no annual fee in year one. From year two the AED 199 + VAT fee (AED 208.95) is waived if you spent AED 15,000 on the card in the year — about AED 1,250 a month. Balance transfers, easy payment plans, cash advances and fees don't count toward the threshold.

What is the SHAMS Platinum welcome offer?+

Two parts, for new-to-card customers with cards issued by 31 December 2026: (1) 50,000 bonus Wala'a Rewards (worth up to AED 250) if you spend USD 5,000 within 90 days of issuance; (2) 20% cashback at Amazon, Dubai Now, Deliveroo, Noon and Talabat for the first 3 months, capped at AED 15 per merchant per month — up to AED 270 in total.

How much are Wala'a Rewards worth?+

DIB values 50,000 Wala'a at 'up to AED 250' — about AED 0.005 per reward. On that basis 10 Wala'a per AED 1 on dining and travel is 5% back, and the 1.5 base rate is roughly 0.75%. Actual value depends on how you redeem through alt Online Banking.

Does the SHAMS Platinum include airport lounge access?+

No. Lounge access, valet parking, Costa buy-one-get-one and airport transfers start at the SHAMS Signature tier. The Platinum's travel benefit is the USD 100,000 travel and medical cover when you book flights with the card.

What does the travel insurance cover?+

Up to USD 100,000 of travel and medical coverage when flight tickets are booked with the card — for you, your spouse and up to 4 children under 18. It includes personal accident benefits, emergency medical expenses, cancelled or delayed departure, loss of personal belongings and baggage delay or loss.

Is the SHAMS Platinum Card Sharia-compliant?+

Yes. DIB is a fully Islamic bank and SHAMS is a covered card based on the Salam structure with a Wakala account, approved by DIB's Internal Sharia Supervision Committee. The monthly profit rate is 3.69%, and late payment triggers a AED 236.25 donation to charity rather than a penalty to the bank.

What is the minimum salary for the SHAMS Platinum Card?+

DIB doesn't publish a minimum salary for this card on its website or Key Facts Statement — eligibility is confirmed during the application.
